I still love coffee, so you could definitely reach out to me if you would like company in looking out for new joints around the city.
So today, I begin my Thesis journey, and I would like to share my progress with you as the day’s pass. There would be a lot of information about the tech world, research I did, books I read, even movies I watched, all this culminating to a big thesis which I intend on defending May 2017.
Heads up, there might be a lot of tech stuff and a lot of design stuff inside this, so if you have any questions you can reach out to me. So let’s begin.
Week 1, started off smoothly, including me realizing that I actually have something to do now, post summer break. It, however, ended with a huge chunk of brainstorming. All this, to get to three great ideas which could be my possible thesis. To understand better, I’ll explain you everything in stages.
To start off the research process I initially had to find out my inspirations and interests. I sat back, relaxed and started making note of things that I love, things that I can’t live without even if I don’t like them, things which make my life simpler no matter what. Then I started noting down my interests, this consisted of all my challenges, my problems, my hobbies etc. There were at times, I looked upon what interested me and what were the inspirations that led to my interest in that particular topic, this helped me in understanding myself more clearly.
By jotting down my inspirations and sorting them, I looked into my interests more closely.
After carefully analyzing my interests and inspirations, I had to carefully narrow it down to three interest points, which would in turn help me lead further in my research process.
I also ended up jotting down a chart which carefully brought all my interests and inspirations together.
At the end of this stage, I had to narrow my research down to three topic of interests where my research would take place.
Topic 1: The desire for creating interaction that enable understanding amongst flat mate, simplify daily activities, and improve handling of monetary transactions.
Topic 2: The design for an interaction that will understand the behavior amongst people showcasing interests in exploring cuisines and sharing information concerning the same.
Topic 3: The design for digital interactions to enable smoother interactions amongst avid readers who like to share their experiences, and provide suggestions for reading.
The following questions were formulated which would help me in the future in researching upon the same. I also ended up focussing upon research areas for the same, my progress can be viewed in the following Trello Board
-What are the problems associated with people living with roommates and flat mates?
-Will a digital interaction assist in solving problems between individuals living together?
-How will this digital media product appeal to an audience not living with roommates?
-What is the current state of the food blogging industry? How can it be improved?
-How can the digital interaction compete with existing food review application?
-How can the app be made more interactive and learning? Yet competitive amongst friends and family members?
-How great is the book review blogging industry?
-What inconsistencies are existing in applications already existing, how can the same data be used and improved?
-How can a digital interaction be used to solve the problem of finding a book to read.
Based on the topics which I inferred upon, I created the following grid of nine. Which broadened all three topics onto one page.
Here is a Pecha-Kucha presentation for the same.
That’s all for this week folks.
